Ethics & Participation: Protecting Every Voice
At YPC, ethical research isn't just a policy—it's our promise. Every student's voice is protected, respected, and empowered
1. Voluntary Participation
All participation in YPC surveys or discussions is completely voluntary.
Students may skip any question or stop participation at any time without explanation.
Participation never affects a student’s school standing, grades, or extracurricular status.
In short: You decide if, when, and how you participate — always.
2. Anonymity & Privacy
Surveys are anonymous; they do not collect names, emails, or identifying information.
Data is collected using secure tools that do not automatically store IP addresses or track users.
Local student researchers analyze responses in aggregate (percentages, summaries) before sharing results with YPC.
No individual responses are ever published or shared outside the project.
Your words matter, but your identity stays private.
3. Safe & Respectful Topics
YPC avoids questions about sensitive or protected areas such as political affiliation, religion, sexuality, mental health, drug or alcohol use, or family income.
Surveys focus on cultural, social, and policy issues that affect students’ daily lives — such as education, technology, community engagement, climate, or youth leadership.
All questions are peer-reviewed for clarity, comfort, and fairness before use.
We ask what matters – never what’s too personal.
4. Independent & Youth-Led
YPC is independent of schools, districts, or government institutions.
Students organize and run their own local surveys using personal devices and non-school accounts.
Adult mentors may advise, but all research and analysis are conducted by students.
This is research by students, for students, about the world we share.
5. Ethical Data Use
Each local survey lead sends only aggregated summaries (never raw data) to the YPC coordination team.
YPC combines data across participating schools and regions to identify trends and insights.
Reports and visualizations highlight collective themes — not individual voices — ensuring confidentiality and integrity.
Data is stored securely and deleted after analysis to protect privacy.
From honest answers to collective insight — that’s our promise.
6. Our Ethical Commitment
All members of the Youth Promise Collective agree to:
Conduct research with respect, empathy, and integrity;
Protect participant privacy;
Avoid bias or manipulation;
Present data truthfully and transparently.
This commitment forms the foundation of YPC’s Youth Research Ethics Pledge, a living document updated as the Collective grows.
